Fun Fact:
We are absolute nerds and love incorporating fun themes into our sessions. We're not ashamed to include some of our favorite hobbies and interests into everything we do, why should you be? If you're fans of Star Wars, or Game of Thrones, we got you. Love animals and really want to put your sweet newborn into an adorable bee outfit, I'll have it pulled out and ready to go so we're not wasting any time.
We really value our clients' input and email out questionnaires after booking to ensure we're on the same page and we're incorporating elements you'll love for years. and be glad you included in your Newborn Session.
Do I need to bring themed outfits or is this something you provide?
Great question! After booking, you would fill out a questionnaire to let us know what your session goals are and to share more information regarding specific interests, hobbies, color schemes, etc. This really helps us prepare for your session appropriately. This also is the perfect opportunity to share if there's anything special or unique you would like to incorporate into your session. I am then able to take this information and reach out to my preferred vendors to coordinate with them to create something custom and unique.
Names and their importance...
Our pre-session online questionnaire asks if your child's name has any special significance. In this Client's case, Baby's name absolutely had an important meaning. Her name means "warrior" in Italian and her parents wanted to incorporate this into her Newborn Session. I was more than willing to do so. I contacted one of my favorite newborn vendors and collaborated with her to design something unique that encapsulates this little lady's strong and powerful name.
FUN FACT:
I am a HUGE onomatophile; or, someone who loves names. I love learning new names and hearing the story behind why you named your child the name you gave them. I feel it's such a vital component to consider as this will be what they are called for the rest of their lives and the mantle they'll carry always.
~ For those of you who don't know,I named both of my daughters unique names that I pray will carry them through and encourage strength, willpower, and a uniqueness they'll be proud of.
Seasons & Holidays
Who doesn't love a fun seasonal newborn photo? Seeing how adorable they look with bunny ears? Or, what about a cute swimming baby for Summer?
Seriously, what's more fun than celebrating your Baby's birth by incorporating fun seasonal props and outfits to help commemorate when they were born? If your little one is due around a holiday, make sure to let me know on your questionnaire so we can come up with something unique. ;)
Can I bring a personal item or memento to my Newborn Session?
Absolutely! We encourage you to bring anything that might have a special meaning that you would like to include in your Newborn Session. This can include a family heirloom, a beloved keepsake, possibly a memento of a loved one's who is no longer with us. These are all great pieces to ensure your session is special and unique.
This Client's mother, Baby's grandmother, sadly passed not too long before this little lady joined the family. Mom wanted to incorporate Grandma's wedding dress & wedding portrait into her daughter's Newborn Session.
WHAT NOT TO BRING
Having said the above, try to avoid bringing outfits purchased off of Amazon or another commercial retail store.
WHY NOT?
These outfits are not actual newborn outfits. Newborn Sessions are typically booked between 5 and 21 days after arrival. This means babies are still around the weight they were at birth, some even smaller, with a few having gained only a pound or so. These outfits usually are meant for bigger babies and will end up swallowing baby during posing. While it looks like some retail sellers are getting the newborn photography sizing a bit more than in past years, the vast majority do not.
BUT I LOVE THAT OUTFIT!
If it's something you absolutely want to include, I will do my very best to incorporate it and make it cute. ;)
However, if it's something that you love the theme or style and want it included, let me know ahead of time and I'll see what I can come up with.
Good rule of thumb, if it doesn't have sentimental value, don't worry about it. Let me know your interests and I'll see what I can come up with. That way, you're not buying an outfit that won't fit during Baby's Newborn Session and you won't have to worry about keeping or selling something you never used.
