More about maternity sessions...

You're pregnant and expecting a sweet little baby! This is seriously one of the most important moments of your life. As a woman, I can tell you from personal experience, being pregnant with my children changed my life. It began my journey as a mother and was the beginning of my child's story. As a photographer, I knew how important it was to capture this fleeting time in my life. And, I'm so glad I did. I'm able to look back on those pictures fondly with my children and show them how wonderful it was to share that time with them.

Expecting a newborn baby is sometimes nerve-wracking when it comes to feeling like you need to get a lot done before your little one arrives. While 9 months mights seem like a long time...it's not. If this isn't your first child, you know what I'm talking about. ;) Time will FLY. However, knowing what needs to be done can drastically help you prepare efficiently. Planning your maternity session is just as important as the other items on your to-do list. At least, I feel it is...obviously. I'd love to share some helpful tips when preparing for your pregnancy pictures and maternity photoshoot.

WHEN? This is a great question! (You're welcome.) First, you need to make sure you've scheduled your session far enough out that it's one less thing you need to worry about. This is such a simple step. Decide on a style you want, choose a photographer, schedule you session. Boom! That's taken care of. All that still needs doing will be the actual session. Which, won't be until much later in your pregnancy. Why?, you ask....well, we want to capture your perfect baby bump at an ideal time. This is usually between 32 and 36 weeks. That's our sweet spot. It's far enough out from your due date that we shouldn't have to worry about not making it in time. And, it's far enough along in your pregnancy that you'll have an adorable pregnant belly that will look precious in your maternity photos.

WHERE? This is a great question for those of you that don't have a decided look that you're hoping to achieve. If you've seen various maternity photoshoots online featuring both location and studio photos and you're unsure what style you're looking for, I would weigh the pros and cons and see which type you gravitate more toward. Feel free to check out my blog on whether to choose Location or Studio for your next portraits. https://www.harpsyportraiture.com/blog/where-to-take-family-photos/

WHY? Hmmm...this is a personal question best reflected on by yourself. However, I will give you some reasons why I believe a maternity session is important. Pregnancy is what begins a bond that should never be broken. It creates a relationship that no other can compare with. The moment when you gave everything for the love of your child. You shared your body with your baby, nourished, cared for, loved your child from the inside out. Pregnancy photos showcase that love. Your maternity photoshoot can capture this moment to cherish forever. When your children are grown and out of the house, you'll be able to look back on these images fondly; knowing that this was truly the beginning of their journey.

HOW? It's legit ridiculously simple. Contact your chosen photographer, converse with them regarding your maternity session hopes, schedule a date & time, and BOOM! You're scheduled and ready to go! Seriously, it's that easy. Plus (!), you might not even have to worry about most of the particulars. For our studio, we have a Client Closet that allows our expectant mamas the opportunity to wear any of our high-end, boutique maternity gowns. This way, you don't have to go out and buy a dress you'll only wear once. You can even have multiple set-ups and dresses during your session! Plus, we share styling guidance from the very start so that you're prepared and your whole family is good-to-go. I'm all about minimizing stress for any mother that comes into my studio. I want you to be happy and the way to do that is providing a seamless and stress-free experience...especially during a time when we can be a smidge hormonal. Or...so people say. Never happened to me, personally. ;)
